Caution: Major spoilers for those who have not watched Star Wars ahead
Yes, you are not dreaming or hallucinating, here's another update from yours truly. You know, taking the initiative to do something regularly is hard, with the exceptions of slacking, sleeping, playing games... you know, things of that sort. So it was with tremendous effort that I managed to overcome my laziness and present to all you loyal fans this update. Applause at this point would be most appropriate, thank you. Heh.
Highlights of the week included catching Star Wars: Revenge of The Sith on its opening day, with Darryl and Alfred. We watched the movie at Cineleisure; which, thank goodness, is the only cinema that isn't taking part in the insane price wars started by good ol' Golden Village. Stupid buggers. At $10.50 a ticket on weekends and public holidays, they must think that the average Singaporean owns a bungalow, drives a Rolls Royce to work and commands a 5 digits salary. And to think that in my parents' days, movie tickets cost about as much as what it would cost to get you a plate of poorly cooked chicken rice today. Sheesh. With such ridiculous price hikes being implemented, is it any wonder that movie and music piracy is on the rise? And media companies blame the layman for being a cheapskate.
Episode 3 wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either. The special effects were great, the plot was pretty good; but the script, wooden acting by some of the characters, and the weird little green dude kinda ruined the experience. Scripts don't come any cheesier than this, with Wenjie quoting a good example from the show. In the last 20mins, Natalie Portman learns that Anakin has fallen to the dark side, and tearfully exclaims: "Anakin, you are breaking my heart." Sigh, even her beauty isn't enough to save her this time. And since we are talking about Amidala here, I thought it amusing that the fall of Anakin could rob her of the will to live. I mean, dying in childbirth, with technology capable of producing starships that could blast a planet to smithereens all around her, and a perfectly healthy constitution, seems to border on the ridiculous. It seems to me that George is plain eager to get rid of poor Amidala. Sad isn't it? Hayden Christensen, on the other hand, gets to live on, even after suffering amputation of his limbs and immolation by fire. I mean, sure Darth Vader is in the later, or should I say earlier, episodes, but if bad acting was a criteria for killing off people, he would have been the first candidate. Well, I'm not saying his performance as Anakin Skywalker was horrible, but it sure would have been better for us movie goers not having to see him putting on the same 'Me-Anakin, me-don't-know-what-is-going-on-but-I-won't-show-it' expression in every situation. And was it George Lucas' intention to portray him as a dunce? Because for all his prowess and power in the Force, he still seems to be manipulated by Palpatine with incredulous ease. Not to mention, he managed to get Mace Windu fried by Sith lightning too. Sigh. And finally, we have the little green guy, affectionately known to all as Yoda. Sure he is cute for a Jedi master and all, but his habit of making sentences backwards gets kinda irritating after awhile. Still, it was fun watching him bounce, somersault and flip around in his battle with Sidious. Makes you wonder if age is a factor when performing acrobatics. Lol.
Had the Spastic Clan over at my place for mahjong on Saturday. The original plan was to play overnight, but that idiot Zhiguang had to sign up for the Big Walk on Sunday. Not only that, he adamantly refused to stay over and leave early the following morning. Nooo, instead, he had to go home on Saturday to get his stuff. What a spoiler. Well, in the end, we played 2 rounds before calling it a day. I managed to break even, while Darryl and Wenda sucked Zhiguang dry. Serves him right. Heh. Still, it was a miracle that I even managed to cut my losses to 0 with Wenda playing. Man that dick's luck is incredible. I can start with 3 tiles to winning the game, and he will still end up beating me to it first no matter what cards he drew at the start. Grr...though I have to admit, I never had any luck in gambling before. Never had, and never will, I suppose. Ah well, that reduces my options of making money to legitimate choices that involves hard work. Man that sucks. Haha.
