Of eternal boredom, application forms designed by idiots and words of wisdom
Okok, I know some of you out there are dying for the next update, so I decided to get off my ass and regale you people with more excerpts of my extraordinarily boring and mundane life. Did I just hear ecstatic screams of joy? Lol.
Now that exams are a thing of the past and the holidays are here to stay, two words sum up these few days nicely: f**king boring. I get more sleep in one day than I did over 2 days during the exams period, and I'm more or less permanently stuck to my chair in front of my monitor, or to my soft and comfy bed. And I thought the holidays would give me plenty of time to get out of the sedentary lifestyle I've been leading. Looks like its not gonna happen anytime soon. Lol. Ok I'm a lazy bastard, so sue me.
Slacking around is all good and well, but the curse of eternal boredom is driving me up the wall literally. In fact, I'm so bored, I'd just stare at my Bittorrent download meters, willing it to speed up, wondering why the hell are my downloads taking ages to complete, for hours. Or, I'd lie in wait in front of my monitor for some unsuspecting sucker...I mean friend, to come online, so I can bug him or her to death. Sheesh. I need to get a life. Or a job. Or a girlfriend. I don't know.
Speaking about jobs, I sent in my application to the Singapore Department of Statistics last week, and to date, I've not heard a single word from them. It seems that the army isn't the only organization cursed with inefficiency, apparently this problem is widespread. I got hold of some numbers for enquiries about the temp jobs from Joshua and off the web, but all 5 out of 5 attempts to get through to someone on the other end failed miserably. I mean, what the heck, even the line for their main office goes unanswered. Talk about slack. And I thought I was bad. Sigh. Steven managed to source another temp job offer with the IRA, which looked quite promising. $4.50-$6.50 per hour, depending on qualifications, didn't sound so bad. But, the online application form was an absolute nightmare. I filled up one page full of questions asking for loads of unnecessary details and crap, to find out that it was just the first page out of 3. Stuff like my CCA records had to be filled in, they wanted to know the names and IC numbers of my family members, and I was half expecting them to ask me what was the size of my underwear. To top it all off, upon reaching the 3rd page, I realised I'd just filled in Chinese under my nationality, and no, the form didn't have a 'Back' button for you to edit any errors that you might have made. So, I had to redo the whole wonderful little form AGAIN. Man, I was this close to biting my monitor in frustration.
Weiyee just left on a mountain climbing trip to Kinabalu in Sabah on Sunday. She don't seem to have done this before, since she asked for my help in packing the stuff that she needed. Of course, being the experienced traveller and globe trotter that I am, I offered her some tips and advice, most of which were seriously common sense really. Drink lots of water, bring medicine for emergencies, pack your stuff in ziplock bags for easier storage and removal, don't talk to strangers, don't eat anything that doesn't look like it can be eaten, don't disturb the monkeys and other wildlife yada yada....words of wisdom in general. Heh. I even lent her my backpack, sleeping bag and cap for her trip. I hope my help has increased my 'Stead-ometer' readings by a notch. If not...sigh. Well, its not like my 'Stead-ometer' reading can go any lower than its current position now, can it? Lol.

4.50 to 6.50 is promising? no!! unless there's commission, shouldn't work for anything below 6.50..
