Typity typety type...data entry sure is boring alright..

Well, here's the long awaited update. To start if off, I've officially joined the work force, albeit on a temporary basis, and today was my very first day at work. Here's a brief outline of my day as a greenhorn:

0700 - Dragged my sorry ass out of bed after alot of hounding by my dad.
0730 - Left house for Buona Vista Mrt station in dad's car.
0815 - Train disgorged me along with a horde of mindless drones and peons heading for work at Novena.
0830 - Met up with the coordinator who brought us up to the 22nd storey for a long boring briefing.
0915 - Department head brought a bunch of us down the dungeon, err I mean basement, to our stations. Another long and boring briefing.
1000 - Split into teams, team leader introduced our job scope to us, along with yet another super long briefing on how to input data using the program provided. At this point, I was fighting to keep myself from yawning for the 249th time and picking up the team leader's mug and bashing her head in.
1100 - Finally got to try my hands on keying in the data from the forms. The very first form had a load of errors. Singaporeans really need a lesson on how to fill up their tax forms properly. After getting my 5th incomplete form, I was this close to committing arson.
1230 - Lunch break, skipped the first 30min in order to finish my work, before heading up to the canteen. The place was packed to the brim, gave up waiting for a seat, grabbed a sandwich and headed back down to work.
1730 - Time to knock off. I didn't even realise it was time to go until I saw everyone else packing up and heading out. Saved my work, switched off the computer and went to sign out, only to discover that my attendance sheet was AWOL. Gave up searching after awhile when it looked like I might be locked in the office by myself, and went home.

What a day eh? Makes me wonder why do I even bother finding a job anyway. The pay sucks balls, I'm onli getting $4.50 an hour, can you believe it, a person of my qualifications getting a measly $4.50 an hour for a job? Sheesh. Talk about exploitation. And the great irony is that, I worked harder than most of the people there today. I even gave lunch a miss so that I could meet my quota, while others snuck out of the office early to have their canteen / smoking break. The coup de grace came when one of the more senior temp staff there commented 'Why are you working so hard? They pay me $6.50 an hour, and I still do less than you.' I wonder how many blood vessels I burst at that point. The work environment leaves much to be desired too, the bloody computers I had to use looked older than I am, and I'm pretty damn old by normal standards. I was half expecting the damn thing to die on me halfway through my work. The amount of RAM, or rather the lack of it, made the whole system more laggy than playing CS on a 56k dialup connection. And most importantly, there was a great dearth of chiobus in the whole place. Sure the female to male ratio was probably a 10:1, but out of 10 females, 9 were malays, and 8 were fat. Sad, isn't it? The only saving grace of the whole day was, I had this cute Chinese girl sitting opposite my table. She was the most senior temp staff there from the look of things, though she's only been with IRAS since April. From the little amount of conversation that transpired, I gathered that she was from TJC, and was currently waiting to enrol in NUS. Her first choice was food sciences, she used to be in the tae kwan do club in JC, and she's probably attached. Heh. I would have bugged her more, if not for the fact that everyone else was doing the same with questions about work. Ah well, she didn't seem quite interested in talking either. Sigh. Why do I always get the difficulty level set on 'Hell'? Lol..

On another note, results are out tomorrow! Gosh, could this be the cause for the impending sense of doom I've been feeling all week? Or it could be due to an oncoming AMI from eating too much grease and lard these holidays...either way its not a good feeling. Maybe I shlould follow Mush and Weida in their Operation Karma Redemption. Volunteer work can't be worse than waiting for results, can it? Haha. Speaking of results, Mush seemed quite depressed about hers yesterday. I don't know if my consoling helped, but I hope she does the same for me when tomorrow comes. Lol.

Happiest day of the week: Last Friday. I won my allowance for this week from those buggers in mahjong. Heh. Victory has never tasted so sweet. In fact, Darryl still owes me 10 bucks. Stingy ass. If you are reading this Darryl, you'd better pay up soon, or else I'm hanging Wenda's head outside your door. But alas, my winnings were shortlived. I spent it all on Sunday when we went over to give May a birthday 'surprise'. I've gained an insight from this though, money is transient. No matter how much you have now, it will be gone sooner or later. Damn now that's a scary thought. But well, the food we had over at ECP on Sunday night was worth the money. We bought lots of food that was shared round the table, and I unabashedly took more than my share. Heh. Hey I'm still growing ok? Horizontally, that is. The whole event was made so hilarious when we had to sneak into May's home with the help of Kenneth, and then proceeded to ensconce ourselves in the pich dark and stuffy kitchen. I had to top it off by sitting on Joey's water bowl. Haha. Joey gave us away with her incessant barking, and May came to investigate the kitchen when we sprang the 'surprise' on her. It was all over in 3min, after the customary singing of the birthday song, blowing of the candle and hoarding the cake in the fridge in the case of a nuclear winter. Wonderful isn't it? So much planning for such a shortlived event. And noone took any pictures either. And here I was, all dressed up and ready to get my mug shot taken so that I can have something to amuse you loyal fans out there. I try my best to brighten up your sadly mundane lives, but it seems that the Force is working against me here. Oh well, no pics for you people at the moment. Perhaps if some of you considered donating some moolah, I might actually have a camera phone with which to get some snapshots. Lol.
